Mr. Sellers: April 2008 Archives

AP Latin Sheets

|

These need to be turned in to the Latin office -- complete with both parent and student signatures -- by Friday, May 2.  When you turn this in, you will receive your summer assignment packet.

In response to the question of which version of the Aeneid to read over the summer, I would recommend the Penguin edition, translated by David West (http://www.amazon.com/Aeneid-Penguin-Classics-Virgil/dp/0140449329).

There are only two and a half weeks of class remaining before the exam period begins.  (There is even less time for seniors.)  I have posted exam study guides here.

AP Latin -- Course Information Sheet

|
For Latin Three students interested in taking AP Vergil next year, Mr. Suddarth has prepared a detailed information sheet for both parents and students to peruse.  (Students will receive a copy of this in class.)  Mr. Suddarth will also be preparing a packet of summer assignments.

"Holding History In Your Hands"

|
The Biblical Resource Center and Museum and the White Station High School JCL have invited us to attend a kick-off event for a special exhibit on Roman coins.  The reception will be from 2-5 PM on Sunday, April 27 at the museum (140 E. Mulberry Street in Collierville).  The exhibit is scheduled to run through July 26.  According to the museum website, admission is free.

Awards

|
Award certificates and ribbons (NLE, TJCL Convention, etc.) have been completed and are available in the Latin office.  Students, please pick them up sometime next week.

2008 National JCL Convention

|
The 2008 NJCL Convention is scheduled for July 28 - August 2 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.  The cost of attending the convention itself is $400 and must be paid in full by May 1.  (This is non-refundable.)

Travel expenses will depend on the size of our delegation.  If we have a very small group, we could either take Mrs. Reinhardt's van or fly (at a cost of about $325 per person), but if we have a medium-sized group, we would probably need to rent a larger van (at a cost of about $100-200 per person).

Any student who wishes to attend the national convention needs to let me know by Friday, April 25.  This event is open to any JCL member who attended the state convention and who has enrolled in Latin for next year.

More information is available at the NJCL website.

2008 TJCL State Convention

|
At the 2008 TJCL State Convention at Austin Peay State University, MUS placed first overall in the "large school" sweepstakes division.  Congratulations to all convention delegates, and thank you for your cooperation and hard work.
