AMC 10 for all 9th grade Acc. Geo. Students

|

Guys, the AMC 10 exam will be given Tuesday morning, February 7th.  More details later about exact periods you will miss on that Tuesday.  I require all my guys to participate.

Dr. Gadbois is planning to host a prep session, tentatively on Wednesday, February 1, right after school in his classroom, US 306.  He will make a definite announcement in chapel Monday, Jan. 30th.  I require that you attend that prep session as well.  If you have a conflict, please see me.

Study Guides for Honors and Acc. Honors

|

Hi guys,

I just posted the Chapter 1 "Study Guides to Quizzes and Tests" for both Honors and Acc. Honors Geometry sections.  If you really are earnest in your desire to do well in geometry this year, you need to become familiar with these study guides and USE them daily in preparation for class and for quizzes.  If you wait till test time to use these, it will be too late.  There is too much to know in order to learn all of the material in a single night.  So, help yourselves out and start NOW!

BTW, thank you for a good beginning to the school year.  Even though some guys were remiss in submitting their summer math packets in a timely manner yesterday, I thought we had great class meetings today.  Thank you for your participation.  See how easy it is to earn bonus quiz points, and everyone is capable of earning them.  Just do your work conscientiously, and the rest will take care of itself.  ;>)

After grading your last quiz, I feel we need time to review that quiz before taking another.  So, I am giving you only one quiz Tuesday and the last quiz Wednesday.  The test will be taken Thursday, instead of Wednesday.

Acc. Honors Geometry and Honors Geometry

|

It was great to have a day to enjoy the snow, but now it's time to get back to work and enjoy geometry once again!  :)

All assignments are "as is," but will moved up a day, i.e., all Monday assignments are now due Tuesday (including any quizzes), etc. for the remainder of this week.

Format for Fall Exams

|

Exams will be all multiple choice for both Accelerated Geometry and Geometry.  However, remember that most of the questions will be work-outs in multiple choice format.  So, you must know the material well.  Please make good use of your study time.  Good luck on all of your exams!

Don't forget to return your review packet on exam day.

A NOTE TO ACCELERATED GEOMETRY

|

Guys, because you've never taken a test for me until now, I want to be sure you have plenty of time to complete your test with time for good thinking on your part.  So, I am dividing your test into 2 parts.  The first part you will take as scheduled on Tuesday, but the 2nd part you will take on Wednesday.  The worksheets assigned originally for Wednesday will be due Thursday instead and will not even be given to you until Wednesday.  I hope each of you will prepare well for this test by studying your past quizzes and by using the posted Study Guide.  If you do those things, you should have no excuse for not doing well on your test.

CURVE SKETCHING DESIGN FOR ACC AND REG CLASSES

|

Many of you have expressed interest in the cool curve sketching designs that adorn the east white board in our classroom.  You have been assigned two curve sketching worksheets (among others for acc geo) for homework after your Chapter 1 tests during the week of August 30th as an introduction to curve sketching.  The 3rd exercise on the first worksheet is for you to construct an original design on plain white paper (no ruled paper).  You may use colors or do a pencil sketch--your choice.

You have till Tuesday, September 7th, to complete that one exercise for up to 5 bonus quiz points.  However, the remainder of the worksheets will be due the day after your Chapter 1 tests.  I am giving you extended time for only your original design, so that you may devote the time needed to do a really cool design of your own.  As I said, you may earn a maximum of 5 bonus quiz points for your project, but you can earn less, including 0, depending on the conscientious effort you give to this project.

I look forward to seeing your creativity at work.

Assignment Change for Period 1 for Wednesday

|

Guys, I have changed the pages in your packet assigned for homework due Wednesday, August  25th.  Please check your updated assignment page.

Comments to Period 1

|

Guys, after reviewing the content of the homework problems relative to the material I was able to cover in class today (Wednesday), I find that the assignment is appropriate as written.  Your quiz is also appropriate as written.  So, it is not necessary for me to change expectations for Thursday's homework assignments.

Thank you for your great participation in class today.

WELCOME TO THE 2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR

|

Welcome to my website and blog. I require that you check my blog daily to see if any informative or directive entries have been posted that are pertinent to you.  "Mrs. Moore, I didn't know I was supposed to do that," will never be an accepted excuse.

I truly want each of you to have a great geometry experience this school year.  I have a formula for succcess that, if followed, will help you do your very best.  That formula includes my providing you with a study guide for each and every chapter that tells you what you should know for quizzes and tests.  Look on this site to your left and you will see the pages entitled either "Geometry Study Guide" or "Accelerated Geometry Study Guide."  Clicking on those pages will take you to the current study guide.  Please print a hard copy of your current study guide to keep in your math notebook.  Refer to it often as we study each section of each chapter.  Doing so will help tremendously in your preparation for quizzes; and, by the time we complete the chapter, you'll be sooo much better prepared for your chapter test.

Homework is an absolute!  You must do it or reap the consequences.  Those consequences include, but are not limited to, a point being deducted from your quarter grade for each day you are without homework.

I want you also to familiarize yourself immediately with my "Class Policies" and "Homework and the Homework Notebook," pages you once again will find to the left of this site.  Print a hard copy of each and keep in the front pocket of your math notebook for the remainder of the year.

You also need to print a copy of "Supply List" and obtain those supplies before coming to class on Monday, August 16th.  We will begin our school year then in earnest, and you will need to be fully prepared to do so.

I look forward to meeting each of you.
