The Journal Assignment in NT Survey

Each day you will have a reading assignment in the New Testament. The journal assignment applies only to the Scripture reading, not to the textbook. Either write or type a journal entry of ½ to a full page for each day. After four assignments you will turn in your journals for a quiz grade. One day late will receive a penalty of 10 points. The second day will cost you 20 additional points, three days late will be 30 more, and after three days you will receive a zero.

The content should show your reaction to the reading. You might compare it with something you heard in Sunday school, or something you heard sometime in the past. You might ask a question about why something was said, or the sequence of events, or the way a specific reading describes human nature or problems of today. As a last resort you can just summarize the reading, but condense your work to fit between ½ and a whole page.

At the top right of each page list the reading assignment for that journal entry. If you are writing by hand, make your work legible to me. Do not skip lines, and take care with your corrections. If you type your work, use Times New Roman 12 pt. font, and double-space your work. You will be graded on grammar, spelling, sentence structure, content, and following directions. If you do the assignment well and on time, it will improve your quiz average. Place each day’s work in a three-hole folder, and label it as “New Testament Journal” with your name on the front.

PowerPoint Presentation

You will be required to make one PowerPoint report to the class (topics at the back of this binder). Your presentation should last 6-8 minutes and should include 7-10 slides. Include two features in your report: 1) The significance of this person in world history; 2) the significance of this person to the New Testament. We will spend at least a full class period in the library for you to research and make your slides. You will receive a test grade for your work. Although not everyone will report on the same day, all slides will be due on the same day.
