Brothers Karamazov (BK) Book Club moves ahead

|

We read Dan Brown's Angels and Demons for February and enjoyed the not-quite-so-literary thriller by Brown, who happens to be a former English teacher at Philips Exeter Academy.  Lots of ideas about science, religion, history, and Rome were touched on in the book and in our discussion.

Our next book is going to be The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, who just won a major award for it.  I've finished reading it (over spring break) and thought it was a good read--not too heavy but still thought-provoking in some ways.  We'll meet on March 26, so if you want a copy we have some in the library and I also can loan someone my personal copy.

We also tentatively planned to read Twilight by Stephenie Meyer for our April selection, although not everyone was crazy about the idea.  We've noticed that it's been checked out a lot this year, so even though it's about a girl, it's breaking the stereotype that says boys won't read books with female protagonists.  So see what you think!

Monday Lunch Book Club for March

|
We met on March 2 and discussed The Bark of the Bog Owl, the first of a series by Jonathan Rogers, who is going to be our guest speaker on March 25.  Several people wanted another month to read the book, so we kept it and added the next two books as options for April.  Hope you're reading the book(s) and telling your friends about the visit!
