When school is out for snow days, assignments that were missed will be due the day we return. These assignments include all written work and all quizzes.

 

The English Department has decided to give the third summer-reading test.  For seventh grade, the test over The Hound of the Baskervilles will be given Thursday, September 3.  For eighth grade, period 7, the test over Ender's Game will be given Thursday, September 3, and for period 3, the test will be given Friday, September 4.

 

Seventh graders: remember to have all your needed supplies with you in class as I will check those Monday. You will need a pencil Monday and Tuesday for our summer-reading tests. You will take one test per day.  If you pass both, you will receive two additional points on your first-quarter average. If you pass only one, you will have one point deducted from your first-quarter average. And if you fail both tests, you will have four points deducted from your first-quarter average. 

 

Seventh-graders: please bring The Red Pony test with you to the English examination.  I would like to collect those.  Email me with questions as you study.

 

Tonight, May 5, at 6:00 p.m., I will show To Kill A Mockingbird in the Dunavant Lecture Hall.  This movie lasts about two hours.  We will eat pizza, so please have your son bring $3.  Drinks will be provided.

 

For Period 3 Friday, you have 6-L, 6-M, and 9-D due, sheets that were originally due Wednesday.  However, we will have our originally-scheduled spelling quiz (Column 3) Friday, and the writing sample is due as well. 

 

Monday is our final test of the second quarter. It covers only Chapter 4, and it will be your last major grade of the quarter.  After having completed this test, we will begin looking back over previous material. The final examination will cover everything we have done this semester, including Chapters 1-4 of the OEH, ten short-stories and vocabulary, and writing. You can begin reviewing by looking over previous tests and notes. 

 

A reminder that if you make a 72 or lower on your book report, you have to rewrite the report to correct your mistakes. You have one week to complete the rewrite assignment. I have returned the reports to those in period 3, and if you qualify, your rewrite is due Friday, October 17. For those in period 2, you will have one week to rewrite the report once I give it back.

 

Just a reminder here:  if you do not understand something on your homework, I expect you to seek help.  You can ask me outside of class, and you can go to English lab.  If those options are not available, then you can email me your question, and I will attempt to help.  I normally check my email in the evening up until around 10:00 p.m., so usually I will respond if you contact me before then.  But you are expected to seek help if you do not understand something on your homework.

 

Just a reminder that for Period 5, we will take our Hound summer-reading test Monday, August 25.  Then we will take the other two tests August 26 and August 28.  Please bring a pencil each day.  Also, you have until Friday to get all necessary supplies for class.
