*Bring these materials to LS 106 each and every time class meets!

Grades            You will have one quiz per chapter, and a test approximately every four chapters. Your grade for the course will be computed as follows.

(+2) Homework, Assignments, Translations
                          50% Quizzes/Projects             50% Tests

Extra Credit will only be offered as follows. For one point each and up to ten points per quarter, present evidence of one of our Latin phrases in a current media context. Submit this information in writing before or after class or if it is electronic e-mail the information to the instructor. (Click here for a tutorial on submitting these

Homework      You should expect written homework each night except on the night before a quiz or test. The assignments will be posted in class with the Latin Phrase for the day and the daily schedule. Be sure to write down the Homework assignment. Homework will be graded at the instructor’s discretion. Sometimes it will be collected and graded for accuracy. At other times it will be checked for completion. Sometimes a grade will be taken for an oral presentation of some aspect of the homework. All students begin the quarter with 2 points added to their quarter average. Each time a HW assignment is incomplete or not presented when called for, a point is deducted from the quarter average.(This includes chapter notecards.) Not bringing your Latin materials to class also falls under this policy.

Make Ups      You will only get half credit for any work that lingers beyond the time of your absence. For example, if you miss two days, then within two days of your return all work should be done. The instructor greatly appreciates work done in advance for planned absences.

Credit              Latin I is a high school credit course and therefore if you pass you will earn one credit. To earn the full credit you must pass the 2nd semester. To graduate from MUS you must have at least 2 more years of foreign language in the Upper School. This 8th grade year of Latin will provide you with a good foundation for further study of foreign language- whether it is Latin or a Romance language (Romani loqui “to speak as Romans”).

Performance   Strike 1          We talk....                       HW average would drop to "1"

Strike 2          Signed by guardian...      HW average would drop to "0"

Strike 3          Guardian gets e-mail...   HW average would drop to "-1"

(a "strike" would be a missed HW assignment or a grade of below 75 on a test or quiz)
