I. Objectives of the
course:
A. To create in the student an
appreciation for the work needed to produce a play
B. To create in the student an
appreciation for the process in which common
materials may be transformed into a work of art
C. To teach various construction
methods used in the production of plays
D. To teach the student how to use
common workshop tools
II. Methods:
The course is taught entirely in a
practical "hands on" manner with instruction
provided as the students help the
instructor build sets for MUS productions,
and help maintain the theater
facilities. Work is done in the theater workshop and
on the stage in the Hyde
Chapel.
III. Evaluation:
Theater production is not an
"academic" course. Grades are not determined by
sets of tests and quizzes. Each
student's work is evaluated by the instructor. In
this evaluation an important student
quality is willingness to complete assigned
tasks. One objective criterion is
applied: each student must work at least fifteen
outside hours to qualify for any
grade.
