Teacher Webpages for the MUS Web
Using FrontPage

Open FrontPage
The shortcut icon may be on your Taskbar

You can also open it by going to Start/ Programs/ Microsoft Office/ FrontPage.
FrontPage opens with a blank document. I always close it by clicking the X

Open the Faculty Folders for the MUS Web
Click File/Open Web
The first time you open the web, you will have to type in the full address. Subsequent times it will appear
as a choice like below or will default to the faculty folder.

Each succeeding time you go into FrontPage, it should default to the folder you use.
If not, click on My Network Places and choose the web you need to open. The name in the list will be faculty.musowls.org for the Faculty one.

You will get a Login screen similar to the one below. Note the slash is a back-slash \  when typing musschool\username. If you are accessing the pages from off campus, establish an internet connection before accessing the files.
You can get a copy of FrontPage from the Tech Center.

Open Your Folder - The entire faculty folder will open up – not just yours. To open your folder, double-click on your folder in the list on the left.

You can expand a folder by clicking on the + next to the folder.

Files in your folder – I have created a template and placed it in your web folder. You can use and adjust it for your own teacher webpages. You can, of course, create your pages entirely from scratch if you wish to. Your main web page is named index.htm.

New Page
To create a new page, click on File/New/Page. You can use the shortcut on the toolbar instead. However, I would suggest getting your basic looked established and then just save a page as
Template so you can always access it and not have to recreate a look each time. Information follows on how to save a page under a new name.

Saving a File Under a Different Name
Click File and Save As

The Save box should automatically open to your folder at this point. If it does not use the Up One Level button to find and select your folder.

Notice that the page title just says new page. You can change that by clicking the Change button. This is not the file name, but the name that appears when someone saves this page in Favorites or Bookmarks.

The file name could also be changed at this point by retyping a new name next to File name:

Notes on File names

  • Many prefer to not use spaces. Name a file social_studies.htm not social studies.htm.

  • You do not have to type in the htm. FrontPage will automatically use that extension.

  • The main page in a web (or in this case in your folder) is usually named index or default.
