IrfanView

These instructions are long to cover many of the options you have. Creating a slideshow can be as easy as selecting the images and playing the show.

Download http://www.irfanview.com/      Installation file <1 MB

Fast Slideshow

  • Suggest you have all images in one folder and have them prepared (cropped, rotated, resolution lower, etc. – instructions below)
  • File menu, Slideshow
  • Look in box:   choose folder with images
  • Click the Add all button or click on only the images you wish to add and the add button.

Note:
You can also add additional images from other folders by changing the location in the Look in box.
You can move an image up or down for the order. Sometimes I name them ahead with number and names to set the order. (Ex. 1VanGogh, 2VanGogh, etc.) You also have a Sort files button that will let you sort them by Name, Date, size, etc.

Slide Show Options

Slide advancement – automatically, or set # of seconds
Loop show, Hide cursor

To Play MP3 files (background music)
Insert MP3 file before the slide you want it to start on. ( Change Files of Type to show All files) Plugin for MP3 playback
http://www.irfanview.com/plugins.htm  (It will not play wav files)

You can just hit Play if all you want to do is show the slideshow

Save as Exe (for portability)
You do not need IrfanView or plugins to play slideshow (with or without music) on another computer

Burn to CD – Data CD or Video CD (VCD)  - Requires Nero Burning (costs, but free demo)
What I usually do is create an exe file and then later burn that to a CD using my own burner software.

Text in a Slideshow

Don’t use the option in the slideshow window.  It will show the same text on each slide. If you want to add text as an introduction to a page or the slideshow, experiment with the following:

¨       Go to the Image menu, Create New empty) image

¨       Set the size and color (ex. 800 wide x 600 high and blue background)

¨       Select an area in the center by clicking and dragging

¨       Edit menu, Insert Text

¨       Choose the font style, size, and color (I choose transparent, Franklin Gothic, 36, white)

¨       Click OK

¨       Type the text

¨       Click OK

¨       Click anywhere outside of the box to remove the selection box.

¨       If you do not like your choices, click the Undo button and try again.

¨       For fun try the buttonize effect – Image menu, Effects, 3D Button

¨       Save the image as JPG and/or GIF and add it to your slideshow
