Line Graphs in Excel

1. Open Excel and type in your Data Labels and data.

Hint:
To let the computer do the work for you, enter the first few values of the Independent Variable (X values) and use the Fill Handle to let the computer complete filling in the other values. To use the Fill Handle, click the box and drag to the other cells - in this case to the right.

2. Highlight your Dependent Variable(s)  (Y values)
and click the chart wizard button.

3. Pick Line and one of the line graphs. I usually pick the one in the upper left-hand corner or the one right below it. Click Next.

4. Click the Series tab and enter the Category (X) axis labels. The easiest way to do that is to click in the white box and then go to your data table and click and drag to surround the X values. In my example it is cells B1 through G1. Click Next.

5. In the next screen you can enter Chart Titles and Data Labels. The only other change I usually make is to click the Legend tab and remove the legend if their is only one line being graphed. Click Next.

6. Choose whether to have the graph on the same page you are on or on a new sheet. You are now through unless you want to make your graph fancier. You can change most elements on the graph by right-clicking any area.
