 Distribution Group for Outlook

MUS has Distribution Lists for several groups. See this document for a list of the groups.

If you need your own distribution group, follow the instructions below.

In Outlook on the Home tab, click the New Items button, More items, and  Contact Group.

Name your new list

Tip: keep the name short and something you will remember (For school classes, I suggest pd1, pd3, etc.)

You can create a list for a subgroup on campus that you email often. You can choose a mixture of off and on campus names.

Add Members - click the Add Members button and then choose
  • from Address Book to get members from the MUS global address list,
  • from Outlook Contacts to choose a member from your personal contact list, or
  • New E-mail Contact for a new e-mail contact.

For the MUS Global Address list, first click the down arrow next to Global Address List.

For Students pick the appropriate class.

You can now click the names you want and click Add (or double-click the names). When you are through, click OK.  You may want to also include yourself to class distribution lists.

Tip: You can type the 1st few letters of someone's last name in the Type Name or Select from List box and the list will jump to names in that part of the alphabet.

Using the Distribution List

Open a new mail message and fill in the Group List name in the To:...  box.

If you do not remember the Group List name, click on the word To, then scroll through the Global list to find the name. Group names will have a  double person icon.

If you are looking for a group in your personal contacts list, click the arrow to the right of the Global Address list box. In the drop-down menu, click Contacts. Your Group List will be there. The Group names appear in bold typeface.

If you are off campus and using WebMail, refer to these instructions for use.

Add New E-Mail Contact

If you need to add a person to your group list that is neither in the MUS global list nor your contacts folder, click the Add Members button and New E-mail Contact in the first step. Fill in the Display name and e-mail address and click OK.
