A.  Verb Principal Parts

 

            1.  A Latin verb has 4 principal parts:

B.  Perfect Tense

 

1.  refers to a single past action

2.  is translated using                 (a) have/has

                                                (b) did

                                                (c) English past tense

3.  is formed by using the 3rd principal parts of the Latin verb.  The -i ending is replaced by the following endings, which are used only for the perfect tense:

 

                    1     -i          I                                     1     -imus           we               

Singular       2    -isti      you                   Plural    2     -istis             you            

                    3     -it         he                                  3     -erunt          they                

 

All Latin verbs form their perfect tense the same way, regardless of their conjugation.  Ex.:

 

                    1     misi          I sent                                    1     misimus           we sent              

Singular       2    misisti      you sent                  Plural    2     misistis             you sent           

                    3     misit         he sent                                 3     miserunt          they sent
