A.  Imperfect Tense

 

            1.  refers to a continued past action

            2.  is translated using     (a) was/were + ing

                                                (b) used to

                                                (c) kept (on)

                                                (d) began to

                                                (e) English past tense

            3.  is formed by using  ba  (except for the sum family of irregular verbs)

 

B.  Perfect Tense

 

            1.  refers to a single completed past action

            2.  is translated using     (a) have/has

                                                (b) did

                                                (c) English past tense

            3.  is formed by some change in the verb stem (like s, u, v, etc.)

                        (You will learn these changes later.)

 

For now, memorize the forms given in chapters 18-19.  (Use this rule sheet to organize these forms.  Only 3rd-person singular (he/she/it) and 3rd-person plural (they) forms are used in this chapter!)
