B. 3rd Declension Adjectives: 1. Masculine & feminine have endings like pater except: a. abl. sing. has -i [not -e]. b. gen. pl. has -ium [not um]. 2. Neuter has endings like nomen except: a. abl. sing. has -i [not -e]. b. gen. pl. has -ium [not um]. c. nom. and acc. pl. have -ia [not -a]. 3. Know these 3rd-declension adjectives:
omnis omne all, every brevis breve short incolumis incolume unhurt, safe and sound immobilis immobile motionless fortis forte brave, strong qualis quale what sort of? 4. As always, adjectives must agree with the nouns they modify in three ways: gender (masculine, feminine, neuter) case (nominative, genitive, accusative, ablative) number (singular, plural) Notice this rule does not say that the noun and adjective will always have the same ending. ex. 1. acc. sing.: servum bonum patrem bonum good slave good father 2. nom. pl.: omnes servi omnes patres all slaves - all fathers 3. abl. sing.: nomine longo plaustro longo long name long wagon |
