Latin I

 

A.  Verbs

 

            1.  When a Latin verb ends in -t the subject is singular and will be he, she, or it.

 

                        Ex.            Cornelia sedet.                                  Cornelia sits.

 

            2.  When a Latin verb ends in -nt the subject is plural and will be they.

 

                        Ex.            Puellae sedent.                                 The girls sit.

 

B.  Subjects

 

            1.  A noun used as a singular subject will end in -a.

 

                        Ex.            Cornelia sedet.                                  Cornelia sits.

 

            2.  A noun used as a plural subject will end in -ae.

 

                        Ex.            Puellae sedent.                                 The girls sit.

 

            As in English, a singular subject requires a singular verb, and a plural subject a plural verb.

 

C.  Adjectives

 

            1.  An adjective modifying a singular noun is singular.

 

                        Ex.            Cornelia laeta est.                             Cornelia is happy.

 

            2.  An adjective modifying a plural noun is plural.

 

                        Ex.            Puellae laetae sunt.                          The girls are happy.
