Graph with Trendline (2010)

 

  1. Open Excel
  2. Type in your data (X-axis in column A and Y-axis in column B)

 

                                     

 

  1. Highlight the cells.

                                      

 

  1. On the Insert ribbon, go to the down arrow on the Scatter Graph and select the Scatter with only Markers.

                  

 

 

 

  1. Once you have selected the chart type, your Chart Tools ribbons will appear at the top of your window.

Select the Layout tab.

                                                                   

  1. You can now put in Axis Titles to create placeholders for the titles of both the X and Y axes.

 

  1. Once placeholders are made, just click in them with cursor, highlight existing text,

and replace with your text.  (All titles were changed in the second example.)

Note:  You can right click on title text and axis numbers to change the way they looks (bold, color, etc.).

                                                        

Note: You can highlight text, right click and select Font, to subscript or superscript text.

Note:  You can use the Insert ribbon to insert a Symbol such as the Celsius mark.

  1. It is now time to customize the chart to make it look exactly as you want.

Right click on the numbers of the X-axis and select Format Axis.

In this example, the Major Unit was fixed to go up by 1.

 
    

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


9.      Right click on the numbers of the Y-axis and select Format Axis if you want to customize that  

      axis. (In this example, nothing was changed).

 

Note: This is also where you would customize how numbers are displayed (decimal places, currency, etc.)

 

 

 

  1. Right click on one of the plot points to add trendline.

 

 

 

 

 

  1. A window will open that allows you to customize the trendline.

 

In the example , the line was customized to go from the smallest data point to 0.

 

1.3 was the lowest X axis data number.

 

 

Line was angled towards 0.

 

Your default will be a Linear Trendline.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  1.  It is now time to make decisions about showing the legend.

 


 Left click one time to select the entire legend.

 

             If you do not want to show the entire legend, press Delete.

             F).

 

            If you want the legend, you may want to remove the section about the Linear line.

            Left click a second time on that info to select, and press Delete.

 

 

 

  1. It is now time to make decisions about the gridlines. Click on the chart to select it.  

The Chart Tools ribbons will appear at the top of your window.

Select the Layout tab.

                                                                    

You can now select Gridlines and make your selections.

 

 

 

 


In this example, Major Gridlines

And Minor Gridlines (vertical)
